Weekly Update

Wednesday, November 6th 2013

Hello friend,

Welcome to the second part of our Halloween special and more ghoulish offerings for your RPG table. This week we are taking a look at The God-Machine Chronicle by White Wolf, the revision to the core book, or is it a 2nd edition? Maybe it’s a rules update? The only way to find out is to check out our review.

Ding!

To accompany this, we have added reviews of our favourite 3 supplements for the mortals’ range of World of Darkness books so you can flesh out your God-machine campaign once you get started.

Antagonists is a book containing all things dark and sinister for your PCs to face off against.

Armoury is a repository of gear that will help those PCs stay alive.

Second Sight offers players and storytellers a wide range of different ways of bringing strange and paranormal powers into your game.

This game has taken quite a bit of thinking about and has been dominating the Ding-IRL office for the last week which means we have not had chance to bring you any of the other great games we had planned. Rest assured loyal fans, we will be bringing you everything in the next couple of weeks so you won’t miss out.

We will soon be approaching Ding-IRL’s first birthday (wow that’s gone fast!) and so celebrations will be in order. We have had a fantastic year and it is all down to you guys and your support and so, looking forward to the future we want to make sure we continue giving you the things you want. We have big plans for our second year, but before we do anything we want to hear from you. Tell us what you want to see, more reviews, more places to visits, do you like our advice ages or our gaming stories? Take a minute to visit our contact us page or drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter. Again, we can’t thank you guys enough for you support and encouragement, especially our contributors, and hope we can make even more friends in the coming year.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and Twitter so you never miss a Ding!

Hello friend,

And welcome to our most jammed packed week ever, so much so we have decided to make it a 2 part special!

With tomorrow being Halloween we have decide to bring you a whole load of stuff to help your horror games including reviews of some of the biggest names on the market. We thought we would kick things off by helping you create the right look with our advice on carving a pumpkin, a perfect centre piece to your ghoulish gaming table! What better way of spending the scariest night of the year than by dimming the lights and playing RPG, and hopefully we can help you pick the right one.

Ding!

Everyone loves zombies, from Dawn of the Dead to the Walking Dead, there is something both appealing and terrifying about facing the zombie apocalypse and with an RPG you can do just that without the risk of having your brain eaten. The good thing about this type of game is that it can be set anywhere in the world, a great way of bringing your real-life adventures into your games. It could be anything, what if the campsite you were on this summer was the last pocket of humanity? What equipment did you have with you such as camping stoves and torches and how useful would they be once humanity starts to die out? If your players are familiar with the situation their players are in (not the zombie part!) then it will help them come up with ideas in the game.

Or why not use a map of somewhere you have been, say a theme park or museum, and present that as the area the players are in. They can plan how they cover the exits, see where water or food supplies are, maybe they could raid the gift shop for clothes or make a look-out point at the top of the big-wheel. Use your real world experience to enhance your game and terrify your players.

With that in mind, we have added our review of Dead Reign by Palladium Books as well as the Civilization Gone sourcebook to get you started.

Zombies aren’t the only thing that goes bump in the night! There are plenty of other supernatural stories that can be told around the table. Why not explore some of those dark secrets with Witchcraft by Eden Studios? Secret societies and powerful magics lurk inside this macabre tomb, and with it being absolutely free, it’s an offer even the devil couldn’t resist!

And so as the sunsets and the moon rises, we have one night left before the big day! Make sure you come back tomorrow as we look at a feast of reality bending horrors! We try to answer the question “What is the God-Machine?” and more importantly “Should I buy the God-Machine”? As well as straining our sanity to the limits with Call of Cthulhu and all the free support this game has. Our minds will never be the same again!
